The wall-mounted power supply is housed in a non-flammable plastic enclosure and is equipped with an AC plug that allows the power supply to be mechanically mounted to an AC outlet. A DC output lead connects the DC output voltage of the wall-mounted power supply to the powered device.
Wall-mounted power supplies are known by many names, including AC adapters, plug-in adapters, wall-mounted bumpers, wall-mounted adapters, wall-mounted wattles, wall-mounted plug transformers, linear wall-mounts, and power cubes. Desktop power supplies are also known by other names such as power bricks and power adapters. External power supplies for battery-powered devices may be called chargers or rechargers. Regardless of the name, these power supplies are the most common low-voltage power sources. They consist of small plastic boxes that plug directly into the wall. They vary in performance and quality levels. They can be used in devices that cannot withstand the size/heat or safety compliance challenges required by internal power conversion circuits. When it comes to power supplies, according to the outer enclosure material, they can be divided into plastic enclosure power supplies and metal enclosure power supplies.
In general, the power supply within 180 watts can be a plastic enclosure, above 180 watts, Super Dragon recommends a metal enclosure.
As for plastic enclosure power supplies, there are two types. Both Wall Mount power supplies and Desktop power supplies are one kind of the external power supply. Nowadays, those phone chargers (USB charger / PD charger / GaN charger) are also belong to Wall Mount power supplies.
Desktop Power Supplies enclosed in a non-flammable plastic enclosure are with a removable AC cable and a DC output lead to connect to the device being powered.
Desktop power supplies are able to provide more power than wall mount power supplies, and also typically have a wider range of functions and also more agency approvals. Desktop power supplies usually have 2 components: the actual supply with a DC cord attached, and the AC power cord. A desktop power supply may or may not come with an AC power cord. It is available in three standard sizes—2-prong standard cord, 3-prong standard cord, and a 3 Prong Mickey Mouse style cord (flat or round cord).
These external power features universal AC input operation in the range of 90 ~ 264vac are generally available on any AC power supply worldwide. All Super Dragon power supplies have been qualified to meet international safety standards for ITE / Industrial applications (IEC/EN/UL 62368-1) and/or Household and similar electrical appliances (IEC/EN 60335-1) and/or Medical application (IEC/EN/UL 60601-1). Additional standards regarding no-load input-power limits and operational efficiency have been adopted over the years and all Super Dragon power Supplies comply with DoE (Level VI) | EU ErP 5 standards ensuring devices comply with any energy standard established around the globe.
The use of an external power supply makes the power or battery-powered equipment portable without the need for additional built-in power modules or for the production of equipment for specific power sources. The same equipment may use different adapters, powered by 110 V AC or 220 V AC, vehicle or aircraft batteries.
